Student Body

Grades 1-8. The students at Turning Point School have average to above intelligence, and come from a variety of backgrounds.

They want to learn; they just haven't been taught HOW.

We do not accept children who have severe behaviorial problems that would affect the learning of the others in the classroom. For this reason, we have choosen not to become a Charter School.

Class Size

Turning Point provides a full curriculum. Each class is limited in size to minimize distractions and maximize effective instruction.

Policy

The Turning Point School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national or ethnic origins in the administration of its policies.

Teaching Approach

At the Turning Point School, students are instructed using the Slingerland Adaptation of the Orton-Gillingham Multisensory approach to Language Arts.

This total language approach emphasizes teaching through the intellect to help students think through what they are learning.

This simultaneous multisensory approach integrates the three primary sensory modalities: auditory, visual, and kinesthetic-motor.

Students learn to use all of their senses simultaneously to help them learn what other students can do automatically.

Students develop strategies that will allow them to succeed in any classroom setting. They develop skills to overcome their learning challenges.

Turning Point School's teachers are specially trained in the Slingerland approach and use this multi-sensory method across the curriculum.

Programs

In addition to the Language Arts program, Turning Point School offers a full elementary curriculum including extra-curricular activities and field trips.

The teachers help the students develop learning strategies, encouraging them to build good work habits and self discipline.

Testing

Turning Point School provides testing to determine the basic learning differences for each individual student. A fee covers the testing, consultation and recommendations.

Testing identifies learning modality strengths and weaknesses, and helps identify why the student is struggling.

Tuition

Tuition is charged for each student. Financial assistance is available for qualifying students through sliding scale funds. The School is not supported by a church, synagogue or government agency.

Summer School

Turning Point School offers a summer school program.
This is a half day program utilizing the Slingerland Approach-teaching reading, writing, and spelling skills.

The Staff

Specially trained and certified teachers assist students in developing a learning strategy which encourages the student to develop good work habits and self discipline. Teachers are updated whenever there is new research.

School Board

The Turning Point School Board is composed of parents, community leaders and teachers. Their dedication provides insight and support in enabling our students to succeed.

Working Together

Turning Point School is pleased to be a part of the network of public and other private schools that offer a strong, specifically designed program to help these students overcome their learning differences.
